New Exercise of the Day
You may have noticed that there is now an Exercise of the Day.
Some people have asked what is the difference between a stretch and an exercise ...
You will often see the expression stretching exercise, but there is a difference in the aims of these two activities as provided by my website.
Briefly the purpose of the stretches is to:
* lengthen shortened muscles and tendons
* relieve tension in the muscles
* increase the range of motion
* prepare the body for your exercise regime
Stretching should form part of both your warm up and cool down from your exercise regime.
And the purpose of the exercises is primarily to:
* maintain the mobility of muscles and joints
The first few exercises are ones that you can do whilst sitting at your desk, using tools and objects you are likely to be using every day.
Backdated Stretches
Some of the previous "Stretches of the Day" can be found on my facebook page Marian Child Therapist.
Services Offered
Business never ceases to amaze me. There have been times when I have no interest by prospective clients in a particular treatment. So I stop advertising it. Then guess what...
My first qualification was in Hypnotherapy, and like most businesses it was slow to start, but slowly and steadily the business started to build up. I then started Massage and lots of other associated disciplines and the hypnotherapy more or less ceased. I then stopped advertising it and only mentioned it to my clients. Suddenly I have received many enquiries and hopefully many satisfied clients. The same thing happened with other lesser known therapies.
I think there is a danger of offering everything you do on a plate as it can be overwhelming and clients don't always know which treatment is best for them.
I strongly believe it is the outcomes that clients wish to achieve that is important as opposed to the therapy they need. This is why a consultation is vital. I cover many disciplines and am able to advise clients which treatments I believe are best and because I offer a varitey of therapies I may use more that one type within one session.
Training
Do you ever stop training. You talk to another therapist, they say something which interests you and then you read the internet articles and maybe you feel it is not something which suits the direction you are going, but on the other hand...
A therapist never stops training. We are either talking to other therapists, reading magazine articles, going on more workshops, or studying. Occasionally you think that although there is no more you can take in.
One of the richest sources of information is your client. An opportunity should not be missed is asking a willing client for more information about any presenting issues they may have. Whilst you can always look up signs and symptoms, this information cannot tell you how it makes them feel, how it effects their lives and wellbeing. This information is crucial to the healing process and helps you to attune to your client.
Time to fight ‘computer slump’ - Are you sitting comfortably?
Think about this for a moment, for I am asking a professional question.
You might have slipped into ‘computer slump’ mode without realising it. The signs are hunched back, rounded shoulders and head thrust forward towards the computer screen.
The results will be aches in the lower back, between the shoulder blades and in the neck ... all warnings that too much strain is being placed on your spine...
Your head is heavy and to be kind to yourself it should be kept well balanced. Don’t get used to those aches, take action now.
You can ease the strain immediately, put your feet flat on the floor, push your bottom to the back of your chair, pull in your tummy muscles and sit up straight.
If you want to really feel you are giving yourself a fresh start, move away from the screen, stand up, shake out your muscles, walk to a door, tuck in your bottom and tummy, let your spine lie against the door and straighten out your shoulders. Then adopt a different posture as you sit down again.
There are many ways you can help yourself to care for your body and I plan to share some tips with you in this website.
For the times when you struggle to make a difference yourself come and see me at the Freedom Leisure Centre in Uckfield.
I am a qualified and respected masseur and hypnotherapist and can help iron out some of the knots and aches that build up over time and which slow you down and which affect your mental well-being as well as physical.
I tailor treatment to suit individual clients. That means I make no assumptions about your health and the therapy that will benefit you the most.
I listen as you tell me where pain has developed or discomfort is growing, I learn about your lifestyle and the strains you are under and then suggest the best way of proceeding.
