fertility Reflexology
Sub-fertility or Infertility can be described as a couple being unable to conceive after at least one year of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse.
About 85% of couples will conceive naturally within one year.
There are two types of infertility
- patients with no history of a successful pregnancy
- where there has been a previous successful pregnancy
There are many external pressures from family, friends & the media who treat the ability to conceive as normal. There is also a blame culture. Leaving it too late, or who is the party at fault. For many couples, the stress and anxiety associated with failing to conceive can be overwhelming.
In fact couples who are actually infertile is relatively low. And in cases where the diagnosis is of ‘unexplained fertility’ 60-70% of this group will go on to conceive within 3 years without any treatment.
How Reflexology treatment can help
Reflexology has a very calming and balancing effect on the body, enabling the body to release physical and emotional stress. It can also help in re-balancing hormonal irregularities which, in itself, can alter the ordered release of hormones that regulate the maturation and release of an egg.
Ideally treatment should also include the partner to make sure that the optimum environment for conception to take place is achieved.
For couples undergoing an assisted reproduction treatment such as IVF, ICSI, GIFT, reflexology is not recommended at this time as the levels of hormones are artificially modified. However it can be used before treatment starts to ensure the body is healthy and ready for treatment.
A typical course of treatment would involve around six to eight sessions.
Reflexology does not treat or cure infertility & cannot be used to find out the cause of infertility. Both parties are advised to visit their GP sot that tests can be carried out.
